Urge Ofcom to ban racial slurs such as the N-word in media broadcasting

Petition Details

• Ban the use of racial slurs such as the N-word on national TV, radio and broadcasting.

Additional Information

• Acknowledge that the use of words such as the N-word causes fear, upset and distress within the black community.

• Form stricter penalties for the use of racial slurs on any media broadcasting or distribution service.

The use of racial slurs such as the N-word is emotionally triggering & causes a great deal of distress for the black community. The N-word is a racist term that is demeaning, belittling and used to degrade the black community. The use of the N-word in Broadcasting such as BBC News causes anguish pain and PTSD as it coincides with physical and verbal abuse. It should NEVER be used in society that prides itself on diversity and equality. We fear this will open to more racial remarks involving other ethnic communities.
