Make drinking water facilities mandatory in service stations and town centres
To reduce plastic waste and to reduce our consumption of sugary drinks, the government should make it mandatory for all service stations, shopping centres and town centres to have well publicised and easy to use drinking water facilities.
Currently to get a water bottle filled we often have to queue up to ask a shop assistant or use the taps in toilets. Some cafes do provide jugs of water for customers but this is not for the public really to fill up water bottles. Service stations rely on drivers grabbing bottles of water or bottles of sugary drinks for their income, so a voluntary scheme would not work. The only way we could have effective implementation of this scheme would be if the government made such a scheme compulsory.
