'Put up, or shut up' - Misconduct allegations and public inquiries
Frivolous accusations of misconduct and calls for public inquiries by oppositions of all colours waste parliamentary time, have the potential to waste public money, and breed vast cynicism in the public at large.
Where misconduct is proven, the costs of the inquiry should be borne by the defendant's party. Where it is fully unproven, the costs should be borne by the party requesting the inquiry. Where misconduct is partially proven, the costs should be shared in a ratio set by the inquiry chairman.
