To create a duty of care for bankers inrespect of money deposited with them for safe keeping.
With respect to deposits covered by the Financial Sevices Compensation Scheme, to require bankers to have a duty of care for the safe custody of these deposits. The Government should create a legislative duty of care for bankers that combines the current required for the trustees of pension schemes together with the care expected from solicitors holding money in trust for their clients.
Such a duty of care would increase the confidence depositors have AND REDUCE the risk of another banking crisis affecting taxpayers, employees, pensioners and citizens who sufferred service cuts implimented to reduce the government's deficit.
