Referendum on austerity
After the recent election results in France and Greece, it is clear that, when given the opportunity to express opinion, the majority of the French and Greek population feel that austerity is NOT the solution to their nation's economic problems.
Here in the UK, voters will not get the chance to bring about a different approach until the general election of 2015. 3 years is a very very long time for the current government’s austerity measures to continue without the support of the majority of British people.
Therefore, in the interests of democracy, the government should call a national referendum on this critical issue so that voters can say yes or no to continuing the current austerity measures.
