To give the right for women between the ages of 18 and 25 to be able to opt into the cervical screening programme!
We are petitioning the government to grant women between the ages of 18 and 25 the right to be able to request, and be granted, a smear test.
The government’s position is that it would cause more harm than good to offer smear tests to women under the age of 25. One of the ‘harms’ quoted is the anxiety created in cases of false positive results. However, what is not taken into account is the anxiety created in women worried enough to request a smear and being refused one.
We believe that these women should have the right to opt into the cervical screening programme.
