Petition Action

Have a vote on proportional representation, vs. First past the post

Additional Information

That the Government creates the opportunity for the people of the United Kingdom to take part in a vote that asks the simple question: "Do you wish the next Government (following the 2015 election) to introduce a system of proportional representation for future parliamentary elections?" Yes or No.

If the vote is 'Yes' the next Government will be bound to determine the form of proportional representation, by creating a further opportunity for people to vote for their preferred system (Single transferrable vote, Mixed Member Parliament and other appropriate PR voting systems), within their term. That system will then be introduced for the ensuing parliamentary election.
