Call for increased protection and rights for whistleblowers in the workplace.
We, the undersigned, ask that the Government afford greater protection, and mandatory rights, to "whistleblowers" in the workplace. This to include:
1. Promoting a better understanding of the importance of "whistleblowing" to tackling poor working practices, and dangerous work environments.
2. De-stigmatization of "whistleblowers" : they provide an important function.
3. Imposing sanctions on employers and employing organizations who attempt to intimidate, threaten or otherwise silence "whistleblowers".
4. Providing mandatory support to "whistleblowers" - to come from a variety of agencies, including employers' Human Resource Departments, Unions, Statutory and Voluntary Organizations.
5. Making the intimidation, vitimization or harrassment of "whistleblowers" a GROSS MISCONDUCT offence, both in the Public, and Private, Sectors.
6. Providing mandatory training to employers and employees around the subject of "whistleblowing".
