Publish the amount collected and the number of payers of all taxes and duties
It is difficult for the public to develop an informed opinion on which taxes should be increased to help pay for the current public sector deficit, e.g. adding 2.5% on VAT against 1% on the %40 income tax rate. Publishing raw figures - e.g. £xxxx collected on the 40% income tax rate from yyyy individuals, £xxxxx collected from fuel duty, at yyy% per unit - would allow us to see for ourselves approximately how much a certain change will bring in, and possibly how many people will be affected.
