Petition Action

Investigate Belfast City Council over Lennox case

Additional Information

We the undersigned are requesting an independent inquiry into Belfast City Council's (BCC) handling of Lennox, the Labrador/Bulldog, recently euthanised by BCC under the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA).

Lennox was euthanised for being a "pit-bull type" of dog. DNA evidence to the contrary was not considered, nor was his history which was incident-free. We believe that BCC exploited the DDA without discretion for Lennox's history or consideration for external expert testimony.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

These are transferred matters and therefore the responsibility of the Northern Ireland Executive. It is also open to the public to consider if the Northern Ireland Ombudsman/Commissioner of Complaints might have a role in investigation of any reports of maladministration.
