U.K C.M.O. 2006 policy to be updated to : At any time during pregnancy, alcohol consumption can harm your baby. National Campaign to be implemented.

Additional Information

In other European countries the national population is aware that women should not consume any alcohol during pregnancy in order to protect their fetus, and to prevent FASD.

In England it is advised to avoid any acohol consumption during the first 3 months of pregnancy (N.I.C..E. 2008 "antenatal care") but not during the rest of the pregnancy and the national population is not aware of the harm acohol consumption can have on the fetus and on the children's futures (F.A.S.D.).

The DH message should be updated in order to be more clear, and a national campaign should be implemented. This could reduce NHS expenses and improve numerous children's futures.
