Make the HIV drug post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) available in pharmacies.
I want the Government and Parliament to make it more readily available and time efficient to get access to HIV prevention medication. HIV clinics are not open 24/7 and A&E departments have long waiting times. For a busy person the option is just not available.
Evidence has shown that the earlier the intervention for HIV the lower the risk of transmission. Every hour counts! The lifetime cost of treating one HIV patient is 380,000. An investment into HIV prevention will yield a high return.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Decisions on which medicines can be prescribed by GPs, and thus dispensed by pharmacists, are a clinical matter for the NHS, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
