Reverse the decision to grant FirstGroup the West Coast Mainline franchise
FirstGroup have been granted the franchise for the West Coast Mainline, over a bid by Virgin Group/Virgin Trains.
This decision has been made based on monetary value to the Department of Transport, and disregards the successful management of the West Coast Mainline by Virgin Trains since 1997.
In order to prevent First Great Western's over ambitious bid creating the probable early return of the franchise license I request that the Government and Department for Transport reconsider the franchise award based on past service of both Virgin Trains and FirstGroup, the customers, and the likelihood of the franchise winner being able to run an improving service until the franchise award finishes in 2026
