Petition Action

Channel 4 - Too many adverts in the Paralympics / Appauling coverage

Additional Information

The undersigned hereby request that the government take action to prevent Channel 4 from obtaining the rights to show major live sporting events again.

During the Paralympics coverage, Channel 4 would cut to adverts every few minutes, then return to studio based discussion for several minutes before showing a couple of minutes of sport before going to another set of adverts.

If a commercial broadcaster cannot commit to a maximum of just (for example) 5 minutes of adverts in a one hour period, they should be prevented from being able to bid for the event. Commercial breaks should only be taken at a convenient time and not every few minutes so the network can make money. So many sporting moments have been missed due to C4's appauling lack of coverage.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The choice of Paralympic broadcaster is a matter for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
