The Paralympic Torch should be lit at Stoke Mandeville
Stoke Mandeville Hospital & Stadium in Buckinghamshire is widely recognised as the birthplace of the Paralympic games in the same way as Athens is recognised as the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
This petition is asking HM Government to ask for this special status to be recognised, and ask the IOC to light the Paralympic torch every 4 years at Stoke Mandeville Hospital & Stadium.
Holding the lighting ceremony at the birthplace of the Paralympics would commemorate the special roots of the Games in the rehabilitation of the injured, and recognise the pioneering work started there by Dr Ludwig (Poppa) Guttmann.
