Racing pigeon protection
We the undersigned humbly request that Her Majesty’s Government considers changes to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, to reclassify homing and racing pigeons as “livestock” rather than as “poultry” - so that the owners and keepers of homing and racing pigeons can apply for licences to take or otherwise control raptors and in particular sparrow hawks, peregrines and goshawks, in particular in and around pigeon lofts in accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 or any successor legislation. Alternatively we seek to extend the definition of “livestock” to include “poultry”.
Please note that we do not seek to kill any bird of prey; merely to take them from our pigeon lofts, or vicinity, so that they can be lawfully relocated and either released unharmed or given to a person licensed to keep it in captivity.
We the undersigned humbly request that Her Majesty’s Government to grant this petition.
