home education leaving certificate
Parents of home educated children, especially those who are taking the autonomous learning route, worry that their children may be disadvantaged for college entry and for finding work by not having formal qualifications (which may be expensive to access as a private candidate and may not suit the child's needs)
A new optional home education leaving certificate could be introduced to assess the GCSE equivalency of all the work formal or otherwise that the child has produced at home. This would help raise the profile of home education to match that of school education. With guidelines, the assessment could be carried out by the parents themselves and ratified by an independent examination board.
