Petition Action

Background Music on Radio 4 Trailers

Additional Information

We the undersigned find the background music on Radio 4 Trailers unnecessary and annoying. We urge the Secretary of State for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to investigate the reason for it being used. And if the minister concludes it is unjustified for the said minister then to urge Radio 4 to put a stop to it.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Responsibility for what is broadcast on television and radio rests with the broadcasters and the organisations which regulate broadcasting - the Office of Communications (OFCOM), the BBC Trust and the Welsh Fourth Channel Authority (S4C). They are independent of the Government.

It is a long-standing principle that the Government does not interfere in programme matters, either on arrangements for scheduling or on content.
