Allow people of Scottish birthplace, as per passport listing, living in the UK to vote on Scottish Independence
I'm a proud Scotsman - born in Falkirk, son of a Scottish soldier, schooled in Dunblane and studied at Stirling Uni.
My mum even lives a stones throw from the site of the Battle of Bannockburn, my brothers’ in Edinburgh and I've played "Flower of Scotland" on the bagpipes at Murrayfield more times than I can remember.
Yet, because I don't currently live in Scotland, I don't get to vote in the independence referendum.
I do agree it shouldn't be open to all UK voters regardless of birthplace (unlike other petitions available to sign) but believe strongly that it should be for all the people of Scotland, resident in the UK, to decide. I consider myself, alongside other ex-pat but passionate Scots, one of these people.
As such, I think it's imperative to change the definition and allow the vote as detailed above.
You'll note, I haven't expressed which way I would vote. It's not about trying to sway the result - just ensuring all of the people of Scotland have their say.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
