Incentivise a working attitude in the low paid - overlap benefits and minimum wage jobs
The gap between unemployment benefits and work, where there is no valley of reduced income between, can be filled by overlapping benefits and work. Reduce the minimum wage to £3 and put all those on sub £7 jobs on benefits that they are on now. Work then pays.
When earning over £5/hr, cut the benefits. When over £7/hr remove all benefits. The thresholds will need resolving, the model is simple. The problem of idleness is solved.
Employers benefit from lower cost employees. Society has more workers that may move up the value chain. All win.
