Zero interest income tax on savings and pensions
Savers and pensioners are being clobbered by the recession through no fault of their own.
There should be no income tax paid on interest from savings accounts because we want to encourage savers and the money put aside normally comes from nett income anyway, so it is a double tax.
Pension income should also be income tax free (maybe up to a limit to avoid millionaires becoming even more rich) or the personal allowance should be increased significantly for pensioners who have worked hard all their lives.
