Sunday Trading Hours
It is time to reconsider our extremely restrictive Sunday trading laws. The six hours maximum that shops are allowed to stay open is an anachronism in our modern secular society. In in a country with declining church going these rules, originally instigated by the church, seem no longer relevant. The benefits are obvious: increasing employment, boasting sales revenues, enhancing tourism and, last but not least, providing opportunities for busy people to shop at the same hours that they could during the rest of the week. We believe the government should add this to its proposals for stimulating the economy and scrap Sunday trading laws. Let the retailers decide when they open..
