General election every 12-18 months
Whilst MPs and parties will argue this will increase the costs of elections (it will), I believe it will save money by stopping the excesses of incumbent governments.
Many far more expensive projects would have been scrapped earlier or not started at all (like ID cards, £10bn -far more than the cost of extra elections) if MPs were not safe from being kicked out by the electorate.
I believe this will have the following advantages:
1. Connect politics and government more with the people
2. Save money on stupid projects
3. Make the country more democratic
4. Remove unpopular governments quicker
5. Reduce or eliminate the excesses of government
The disadvantage would be we would have to put up with more elections, but it is a small price to pay for the advantages it gives.
