Make Smokers contribute to their medical treatment.
The government should impose a levy of 50P on each cigarette, to be allocated to the NHS to help with the cost of medical treatment required because of smoking cigarettes.
This levy should be applied to all supplies of cigarettes, duty free on ships, air flights, and the large amounts brought in by the people making trips to France or other foreign countries.
A notice of 1 metre by 50 cm explaining that smoking causes around 86% of deaths from lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from bronchitis and emphysema, and about 17% of deaths from heart disease. and more than a quarter of all cancer deaths can be attributed to smoking.
Such a notice should be clearly displayed where ever cigarettes are sold.
