Maintain a free press
We call upon the Government and Opposition to resist the knee-jerk reaction to Leveson to regulate the press through legislation. Those in the media that have operated outside the law can be, and are being, prosecuted. Regulation of the press through statute is a downward path to state control of the media after 300 years of a free press. This should not be contemplated.
