Ethnicity ethics

Additional Information

We call upon the department of culture to review the current questions on application forms regarding ethnicity.

At present, the majority of forms have options for
"Black British"
"White British"

Why are the British divided when other nationalities i.e Chinese are not?

Whether a British person is "Black" or "White" is A, Entirely irrelevant. B, Tantamount to prejudice and C, An attempt to divide the British people into separate racial categories.

We also question the terminology used i.e "White" which surely should be "Caucasian".

Please legislate to have the two options of "White British" and "Black British" merged into the singular option "British".

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This issue is not a matter for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. I would recommend resubmitting the petition without reference to a specific Government department, as the issue you raise is inter-departmental. You may wish to consider submitting to the Office of the Leader of the House of Commons as we are best able to deal with general petitions.
