Bicycle Insurance
At this moment in time, there is no law in place for bicycles to have insurance in order to use the UK road's.
If bicycles were required to have insurance then I believe that the number of bike related accidents will be greatly reduced.
If damage is caused to vehicle on the public highway by a bicycle, the only way the owner of the vehicle can claim any costs back is to go through the cyclists home insurer. As home insurance is not mandatory there is no guarantee that the vehicle owner can claim and cost incurred for repairs back, nor is there any guarantee that the cyclist will give the correct details. This can be solved by attaching identification style plates, such as a number plate, on to the bike that anyone can record and find out the true identity of the cyclist.
