Waving Lollipop Man of Whickham faces sack!

Additional Information

The 'Waving lollipop man of Whickham, Jim Robson, has been handed his notice. Jim a who for over 12 years has been helping youngsters from three local schools across a busy main road in Whickham, has suddenly found himself on Gateshead Councils' 'Hit-list'.

Jim does an excellent job of slowing traffic down as well as helping children cross the road safely.

It was not long ago that Councillor John McElroy, Gateshead’s Cabinet member for Transport, was quoted as saying: “School crossing patrols are an important part of their community – but I think Jim is probably the first to become part of the cyber-community!

Nick Clennett, Head of Transport and Highways for Gateshead Council also said: “Jim is one of the best adverts for becoming a school crossing patrol we could have.

SAVE THE WAVING LOLLIPOP MAN OF WHICKHAM.

Councils should not be allowed to simply 'sack' Lollipop men and women without a full consultation with parents.
