Review the laws and regulations regarding animal welfare in the UK food industry
In light of the disgusting abuse highlighted at a British abbatoir in recent days http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/oct/08/secret-abattoir-video-animal-abuse and the surprising announcement that such cruel acts will not result in any prosecutions, we, the undersigned would like a full review of animal welfare in the UK food industry as we believe current provisions are not fit for purpose.
DEFRA's website states "The way we treat animals is an important reflection of the values of our society." on this basis, after recent revelations, we urgently need to prove that we are humane by moving the bar up on animal welfare legislation.
