Public Interest Disclosure Act - extend protection beyond employees
The protection against victimisation currently afforded to employees under the Public Interest Disclosure Act (i.e. the whistleblower legalisation) should be extended to include protection for other groups of individuals such as service users, parents and volunteers.
It is unacceptable for people (and/or members of their families) to be victimised for raising (in good faith) concerns about malpractice in publicly funded organisations such as schools and local authorities.
All individuals (not just paid employees) need protection from reprisals and recriminations from people who abuse their positions of power and public trust.
Thank you.
