Force chewing gum companies to contribute to clean-up costs through a tax on its manufacture
Dropping chewing gum is littering and it is disgusting. If we can get rid of the gum from the streets our towns and cities will be a more pleasant place to live and to visit.
Often the worst areas are outside takeaways, where people drop their gum before buying food. There is a £70 fine if you are caught dropping it but this is an ineffective deterent because you rarely see anyone doing it.
Quoting Cllr David Smith, from Bournemouth Council: “It is a blatantly obvious solution to the problem.”
