Petition Action

Implement a national alert system

Additional Information

We the undersigned urge the government to implement a national alert system.

The government should conduct a review for the best way to warn the general population in the event of: Natural disaster, Nuclear attack, Invasion, Civil unrest, Terrorism and other events that call for such an alert.

Currently the government has the ability to take editorial control of the BBC.
We ask that the government expand on this and implement a system similar to that of the EAS (used in the USA).

There should be a clear system in place for when the government uses TV to inform the public and we the public should be aware of such a system and how to identify it.

We ask the government should also look at a nationwide siren system that can be activated both nationally and locally.
List of things that could be included in activation of such a system is:
Nationwide events such as: war, nuclear attack, Invasion, air raid
Local events such as: Disasters man made or natural, Terrorism
