We the under-signed demand a public inquiry into the non-regulation of Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is potentially the biggest educator and curator of information in the world, yet on its own admission ‘some articles are of the highest quality of scholarship, others are admittedly complete rubbish. … use [Wikipedia] with an informed understanding of what it is and what it isn't’.
Wikipedia is also a dangerous platform for scurrilous attacks on private individuals and organisations by disaffected people and those who are simply mischievous or vindictive.
And Wikipedia abrogates any responsibility for its own content.
In its present unregulated form not only can Wikipedia lower the standards of knowledge and education, mislead and mis-inform students from school to university, cause devastating injury to people whose lives are misrepresented within its pages, damage and libel businesses, it can actually without conscience or recourse accidently rewrite world history.
You can't sign this petition because it is now closed. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
