National Donation Scheme for cord blood
Government to set up a National scheme whereby all hospitals offering maternity services also offer cord blood donation facilities.
Information on cord blood donation to be included in the "Green" maternity notes and discussed with all parents to be allowing every mother to chose to save another life.
Cord Blood is vital to the treatment of many blood disorders and also leukaemia. Over 65,000 litres are disposed of as clinical waste each year. Only 50,000 litres are needed to meet over 80% of transplant needs.
Many parents wish to be able to do this and many simply do not know they can. Currently only a handful of hospitals offer this.
On the day you give birth, you can give life twice!
