Investigation of potential for house building cartels and anti-trust operations
At a time of severe housing shortages and very weak economy the number of new houses building starts has dropped to 98,000 in 2012.
Parliament should discuss the need to launch an investigation to discover if house building in the UK is subject to a cartel run by the limited number of large scale house builders in the UK.
They should consider whether developers are intentionally holding back housing supply by limiting building in order to boost house prices and profits.
They need to consider if the house builders are operating in a way that is detrimental to customers and the market.
Parliament also needs to consider if the developers are co-operating in an illegal anti-trust cartel in reducing housing supply and hording land in order to boost profits.
