Mobile phone thefts and losses not to be reported by police.
The Metropolitan Police waste an extraordinary amount of time and resource on reporting petty crime that has no obvious lead and is quite petty and unimportant.
This is especially the case with loss and thefts of mobile phones. These reports make up the vast majority of reported telephone crime taken by civilians and police officers in offices such as the Empress State Building.
The reports are usually made simply to obtain an insurance number for respective providers.
Senior officers have failed to do anything about this for years. The Home Office should change operating procedures to allow police operators (properly trained) to filter these reports and refer people direct to their providers and NOT to police.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
This is a police operational matter.
