Increase the tax on supermarket alcohol and reduce tax on drinks sold in pubs.
For centuries, the local pub has been the cornerstone of the local communities, creating a bond between the members of those communities and therefore a social sense of community spirit and responsibility to your neighbours. In recent years and in the current economic climate, pubs have been closing at an amazing rate, leaving communities without a local gathering point. Today, many people who find it hard to communicate, find it hard to approach their neighbours and end up living in isolation.
We have also seen a massive increase in on the street drinking or drinking in isolation, because of the huge price differential between supermarket drinks and those sold in pubs. We ask the treasury to Increase the tax on supermarket alcohol and reduce tax on drinks sold in pubs, thereby reducing the amount of street drinking, under-age drinking and reviving the age old tradition of social gathering in your local.
