Petition Action

Review the sentencing of Jordan Sheard after the death of Steven Simpson

Additional Information

The signatories of this petition request that the Attorney General review the lenient sentencing of Jordan Sheard, who set fire to Autistic teenager Steven Simpson, resulting in his death.

The signatories feel that the sentence of 3 and a half years, being released on license halfway through his sentence is incredibly lenient for taking another person's life. We request that the sentence be reviewed, and a lengthier sentence be considered, as anyone who could set fire to another human being as a "prank" is a danger to the public, and Steven's family and friends deserve more in terms of respect and justice for Steven's life than the 21 month sentence that has been handed out.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Sentences that appear to be unduly lenient cannot be referred through the E-Petitions website.

If you believe a sentence given in a Crown Court appears to be very low, or unduly lenient, anyone can contact the Attorney General's office asking for the sentence to be reviewed as long as it is within 28 days of sentencing.

In the case of Jordan Sheard, the Attorney General’s Office has already requested the papers from the Crown Prosecution Service so one of the Law Officers can decide whether or not to refer the sentence to the Court of Appeal as being unduly lenient. This sentence will be reviewed therefore, without the need for any further request. ”
