Petition Action

Introduce a reponsible breeding programme applying to all breeders.

Additional Information

A responsible breeding programme is required under the Breeding and Sale of Dogs(Welfare) Act 1999 in order to tackle the problem of over breeding and subsequently the rise in abandoned and homeless dogs and prevent the countless number of dogs being euthanized needlessly on a daily basis due to lack of rescue space.

We urge the Government:
To ensure that ALL breeders require a license.
To introduce the licensing of puppies with the introduction of a log book system similar to a car log book when puppies change hands.
Ensure that, by law, breeders are spot checked by official personnel - fines to be implemented for deviance of legislation.
Ensure that all puppies be microchipped by law.
Introduce compulsary neuteuring of litters with exception of those puppies approved for licensed breeding.
To outlaw puppy farms and prohibit the selling of dogs from pet shops.
