Petition Action

Allow Married Couples & Civil Partners to share their Personal Allowance

Additional Information

Married couples and Civil partners should be permitted to transfer their Personal Allowances to their spouse to reduce their household tax bill.

Taxing married/civil partnership couples as individuals is artificial - their incomes should be treated as one.

I believe the Government should allow couples to transfer their personal allowance to their spouse to help them keep more of the money they work hard for to pay for their families.

If the Government is so keen for families and the big society, why not give couples a real incentive to stay together and work to provide for themselves and their children without the Government "giving with one hand and taking with the other".
