Paying back society with Chain Gangs
Low-level offenders should be made to wear fluorescent pink jump suits and form chain gangs who can then engaged by local authorities to help them keep local communities clean and tidy. Benefits include:
* communities remain cleaner and safer places, whilst offsetting the costs of the incarceration of offenders
* offenders repay society by making positive contributions
* offenders realise that there is a penalty for their actions
* local authorities are able to make use of a resource which is already available and be able to buy-in such services on behalf of their communities
* the chaingang provides a visible deterrent to other potential offenders - particularly if they are made to do long-working days
* offenders gain an element of 'self respect' and humbleness, etc.
* offenders are not left languishing in prison cells for the majority of a day and learning new techniques to commit more crime wnen they are released;
