Petition Action

Stop messing about with the clocks

Additional Information

• Stop the confusion and upset caused by regular seasonal alteration of the time displayed by clocks.
• Regard time as absolute and unchanging, for practical purposes, (e.g. adopt GMT or BST permanently) and acknowledge that it is our behaviour which needs to be adjusted to suit the seasonal variation of our practical needs, not the clocks.
• To assist in this, draft a British Standard (and ISO?) for the working day ("BSWD"?) which could incorporate seasonal and regional variations, e.g. English/Welsh and Scottish. Thus summer BSWD might perhaps be 0900 - 1700 and winter BSWD might be 1000 - 1800.
• Work contracts etc. could be for the BSWD (e.g. 0900 - 1700) or for BSWD + 1 (e.g. 1000 - 1800) etc. and the standard School Day would be determined as starting so as to fit daylight hours, perhaps varying seasonally and regionally, so as to provide best safety for children on journeys to and from school.
