To Ofsted Regulate Services which provide Supported Accomodation to Looked-after children between age 16-18
As a Child Care Provider we are concerned about the number of looked after children going into supported accommodation provision which is UNREGULATED by Ofsted and mostly unsupervised.
Looked-after young people are one of the most (if not the most) 'at risk' groups in society and young people in care are looked after due to a range of reasons.
NSPCC figures for 2010, for example, show 58% of looked after children in England and Wales became looked after because of abuse or neglect at home.
Recently released statistics showed that 50% of sex workers, 50% of prisoners in England and Wales under 25 and 80% of all Big Issue sellers had been in the care system.
Annex B (Volume 5 Guidance) sets out criteria that is used in order to form a judgment about whether a placement constitutes a “Care” rather than a “Supported” (Children’s Act 1989, Guidance & Regulations: Children’s Homes, Volume 5, Annex B).
