Referendum on NHS reforms
We call on the Coalition Government to hold a national referendum on the NHS reforms as contained within The Health & Social Care Act 2012.
The Conservative Party fought the last election on a promise of "No top-down reorganisations" of the NHS, upon which they were elected.
The post-election Coalition Agreement also stated: “We will stop the top-down reorganisations of the NHS that have got in the way of patient care”.
The Health & Social Care Act 2012, which introduced GP Commissioning breaks both of these undertakings, as it is the largest top-down reorganisation of the NHS in a generation.
As the Coalition Government have enacted a law that is the exact opposite to policies they were elected on, and are opposite to the Coalition Agreement, the electorate should be given the opportunity to have their say on the issue.
Should the Government lose the referendum, they should dissolve the Coalition and hold fresh elections based on their actual policies.
