Petition Action

Call for MPs that use exaggerated statistics should be cited for Contempt of Parliament

Additional Information

Recently Secretaries of State have been caught by the press or members of the public misleading both the House of Commons and the general public by misquoting statistics on several occasions.

The departments, under their leadership are constantly using either confusing or misleading information.

These figures are being flooded out to mislead the House of Commons so that their decisions are based on falsehoods, these figures are spouted out to the media, thereby misleading the public.

An MP is guilty of Contempt of Parliament if he or she deliberately misleads Parliament, and any MP accused of the offence may be suspended or expelled.

We, the undersigned, therefore call for the suspension or expulsion of any MP who misuses statistics, facts or polls.
