a commitee to authorise assisted suicide
In the same way that 'phone tapping is illegal, but can be authorised in exceptional circumstances,a committee comprised of senior members of the judiciary and medical profession should be set up to authorise assisted suicide in highly exceptional circumstances such as terminal illness and "locked in syndrome"
An application for consideration must be instigated by the sufferer themselves.
This would not legalise assisted suicide, but would go some way to alleviate the cruel and degrading practice of keeping people who suffer great pain and indiginties alive against their will.
It will also safeguard against vulnerable people being put under duress to end their lives.
