The Government should add Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to the DWP's list of Disabilities
The DWP does not recognise Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD] as a Disability for the purpose of Assessments. In the light of recent high profile cases the Government should address this failure of duty of care to Victims.
The Government should therefore:
• Acknowledge the effects of severe trauma on serving military personnel .
• Recognise that victims of Child Abuse, whether sexual, emotional or physical , has profound and long lasting traumatic effect on victims lives, which may not present themselves until later in life.
• Recognise the effects on Adults and Child Survivors of witnessing traumatic events , both man-made and natural disasters (Hillsborough, Bombings, Murder of a relative, Tsunami , Earthquakes. )
The Government should instruct the DWP and Dept of Health to add PTSD to its list of Disabilities for the purpose of assessment by internal and external departments. [Atos, Work Programmes]
