Petition Action

Change the term 'Mental Illness' to 'Brain Diseases'

Additional Information

I suggest that the term 'Mental Illness' should be scrapped due its widespread negative connotations and the implication of a mind and body separation.

People afflicted with disorders of the brain should be referred to as having a brain disease, just like someone suffering from heart disease is labelled appropriately.

Simply because the treatment for these conditions is primitive shouldn't mean that those suffering should be stigmatised.
