Cycle safety on A roads

I would like the dept of transport too build green coloured cycle lanes too run along side A roads too a high standard similar too a hard shoulder on a motorway so the only maintenance required would be road sweeper system too pick up debris. I realise its going too cost a lot of money but the benefits are an easier flow of vehicle traffic and people would be more inclined too use there bikes in a safer environment and be generally fitter.I am sure the NHS would benefit with a healthier nation (and safer). So in the long run it would pay for itself.
