Ofsted should not be allowed to charge for CRB checks on volunteer preschool committee members
The DfE have withdrawn the subsidy that paid for volunteers to have a CRB check so that they could work for free as committee members, to help run their local preschools (often charities).
Despite the DBS categorically stating that they do not charge for CRB checks on volunteers, Ofsted state that there will be a £52 charge for checks on volunteers done via organisations such as Capita, because the CRB checks have to be made via Ofsted.
Volunteers doing charitable works, in their own free time, should never be expected to pay charges to be able to do this.
We petition the government to either:
(a) continue to subsidise CRB checks for volunteer preschool committee members
or
(b) allow volunteers to organise their own CRB checks via the DBS, before then applying via Ofsted to become committee members
